ATLANTIC BUILDERS GROUP COMPLETES
NEW WAL-MART SUPERCENTER
IN HUNT VALLEY
Atlantic
Builders Group recently completed a new, 225,000 square foot
Wal-Mart Supercenter on 29 acres in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
The store is a one-stop shopping experience, with a full range
of groceries and general merchandise all located under one
roof.
This
is an upscale Wal-Mart, a 400 foot by 500 foot structure with
an exterior that features exterior split-face block walls,
square columns and EFIS finish. It includes a five acre roof
of metal decking over bar joist framing covered by a membrane.
The interior of the building consists of painted walls, poured
concrete floor and an opening ceiling. Interior lighting comes
from a combination of 220 skylights and fluorescent light
fixtures, controlled by a NOVAR energy management system.
The building's forced air HVAC system includes 40 rooftop
units.
Atlantic
Builders Group overcame many obstacles to complete the building
to Wal-Mart's specifications. Challenges included an extremely
tight schedule, a rock-laden building site, problems with
building materials, an unexpected hazmat situation, numerous
last minute owner changes and strict personnel hiring and
documentation procedures. Through innovative scheduling, creative
solutions to problems, optimal use of manpower, and long,
grueling months of work, Atlantic Builders Group succeeded
in completing the $20.4 million project ahead of schedule,
less than nine months after work began.
Atlantic
Builders Group is one of the largest general contractors headquartered
in Baltimore and has 44 years of experience constructing institutional,
commercial, industrial and retail projects.
